Lost in the monotony of the usual days, I peered at my phone to open a new mail. I did not have the faintest of idea that the mail would open a pandora’s box for my life and lead me to an experience compared to none other so far. As I read Rhian’s mail from The Chopras, I smiled from ear to ear, for I was offered a scholarship position to attend a summer school called CuriousU at University of Twente in Enschede, Netherlands. Out of a staggering 8 wonderful courses offered by CuriousU, I was to choose one. Based on my interests and existing skill set, I chose to opt for ‘Risk Management’.
The staff and members at The Chopras helped me throughout the cumbersome visa process and other legal formalities. Right from filling up the application form to my departure for the Netherlands, The Chopras was always there to assist me for any requirements..
On 14th of August I hopped on to the airplane and began what was the first international solo trip. The 8 hour long tiring flight journey was overcome by the joy I experienced when I first step my foot in the Schipol Airport at Amsterdam. As guided during the Pre-Departure Training at The Chopras, I took the train to Enschede and reached the station well in time. The staff members of the Summer School were waiting for us at the station and we all set off to the University of Twente in a shuttle.
The University offered a lush and green huge campus. On the first day we had an ice- breaking session followed by a City Tour of Enschede. There were people from close to 38 different nationalities at Twente and this in itself was a huge learning experience for me.
We had classes for 6 hours each day. The professors at the University speak and teach from vast experience in not only in university teaching but also from prior experience in the corporate world. Most of them had worked for some corporates in Netherlands and so they used real life examples from their learnings in these spaces to address a particular topic in class. I found this method of imparting learning to be really insightful and helpful. We had one free day at the University wherein my friends and I went to Munster in Germany. The city offered a very diverse culture and all of us had a great time there. Overall the entire journey was one amazing experience! I am extremely grateful to The Chopras and the University of Twente to give me an opportunity to explore and excel at such a commendable platform.
