Since the Institute of Systems Science at National University of Singapore (NUS-ISS) started its intake for MTech programmes in 1996, it has trained more than 2,000 students with a focus on the practical aspects of IT and data science. This has made NUS-ISS one of the top Institute of high-learning in Singapore and Asia. That’s not all, there’s a lot more to study at NUS-ISS:
#1 Ranked University in Asia
Ranked no. 1 in Asia and 11th in the World by QS World University Rankings 2019, National University of Singapore (NUS) remains one of the top Universities in the world in Engineering and Technology.
#2 Distinct Learning Experience
NUS-ISS is able to help students and participants apply technologies, processes, methodologies, techniques and best practices because the faculty is well versed with the technology landscape as well as the international frameworks, models and standards.
- Academic Curriculum refreshed over the years
- Paid internship engagement with the Industry
#3 Balances Real World Education with Classroom Learning
Studying in NUS gives student the opportunity to gain hands-on experience through the internship opportunities, ensuring that they immerse in real-world settings and take on projects within sponsoring companies.
In the words of Dr Leong Mun Kew, Director of Graduate Programmes at NUS-ISS, “The MTech programme is a postgraduate degree designed by practitioners, for practitioners. Our staff are industry experts with many years of experience, who can share with the students real working experiences and not textbook answers. We also require our students to go through an industry project during their internship – not a student toy project, but one where there are real deliverables that can solve real pain-points faced by the industry”.
#4 A New Outlook in Software Engineering
How? An enrolled student in Master of Technology in Software Engineering (M Tech SE) programme had completed his internship engagement at enterprise cloud software start-up- Instant Edge in Singapore. During the internship, he was responsible for the entire “Managed Operations” feature of the Instant Edge platform, an integrated application capability designed and built as part of a joint co-innovation initiative between NUS-ISS and Instant Edge.
This becomes the Capstone Project of the enrolled student as part of the M Tech SE programme. Thus, building real-world systems and solving actual problems for local organisations by the students themselves.
#5 Positive Student Feedback
One of NUS’ biggest strength remains the positive feedbacks from students through and through, with special reference to the intensive internship opportunities into a particular industry. Such exposure allows students and recent graduates to gain an insight into how a company operates in the real world at the same time gives them to witness the cycles that an organisation goes through.
Here is what Selvaraju Vignesh, MTech SE student and intern at Instant Edge, have to say: “I got to experience the journey of a software lifecycle, from its inception to its deployment, in a start-up environment where everything was dynamic”. One of the biggest take-aways for Vignesh from the internship was learning to adopt changes and make them part of the whole software development process.
Vignesh’s scope of work at Instant Edge included requirements gathering, analysis, designing, architecting, implementing and testing the “Managed Operations” module for the platform.
Another feedback is from Mohanty Rameswari, who led the NUS-ISS interns at Instant Edge. She previously worked in a multinational corporation (MNC) for six years, and the internship by NUS was a refreshing experience for her. She gave the feedback as, “As part of the energetic and friendly team, I felt empowered to learn, develop and challenge myself every day during the internship. Team collaboration, approachable leadership, open communications were the backbone behind the growth of Instant Edge. The internship has helped me realise my strengths and aided me in defining my career aspirations”.
This positive feedback from the students only re-emphasizes on the quality of the learning experience at NUS-ISS.
Application for the NUS-ISS Master of Technology in Software Engineering programme is now open till 28 February 2019. For more information visit here
