1. Overview of the institution

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) is a world class university where your future is our expertise. 2. Location and facilities

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee is located ten minutes north of the Milwaukee city center, in a safe, tree-filled residential neighborhood along the shore of Lake Michigan. Milwaukee, a 90-minute drive north of Chicago, is the business and financial capital of Wisconsin, with six Fortune 500 companies (Harley-Davidson, Northwestern Mutual, GE Healthcare, MillerCoors, Johnson Controls, and Rockwell Automation). Five convenient, connected, and secure housing residences welcome undergraduate and graduate students, and students also have many off-campus apartment options. UWM’s campus houses movie theaters, performance venues, bowling and ping pong, art galleries, free-for-you athletics facility, a planetarium, 15 NCAA Division I sports teams, and more than 300 student and professional organizations. UWM students receive a free bus pass to navigate all that the Milwaukee area has to offer.

4. Rankings

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee is designated as “Research 1,” one of the top 115 research universities in the United States according to the Carnegie Classifications for Institutions for Higher Education.

UWM’s School of Architecture & Urban Planning has been named one of the best architecture schools in the U.S. by the National Research Council.

Variety has named UWM’s film and animation program one of the top 30 in the world, “because of the program’s commitment to transforming its students into expressive filmmakers with a mature grasp on creative, conceptual and technical skills.”

5. Scholarships

Hundreds of businesses, centers, firms and foundations recruit our students, who are supported by three on-campus career development centers organizing regular recruitment fairs. Our students don’t wait until graduation day to begin their careers. They intern at a Fortune 500 company (or two), and apply their talents and energy to community change through our Institute for Service Learning (800 students, 120 partner agencies). They research and present alongside some of the world’s top scientists as early as sophomore year through our Office of Undergraduate Research. Our students are further supported by faculty and staff who are experts and trailblazers in their fields.
