A Step-by-Step Guide to Education in Germany
    Saturday, October 17, 2015

Germany is one of the popular study abroad destinations for students across the world. This is predominantly because of the quality of education and the range of higher education institutions in this country. Germany is home to diverse universities catering to the needs of students desiring to qualify in various disciplines.

Here you can find universities and colleges of music, art and film, universities of education, universities of technology, universities of applied sciences, universities of armed forces, traditional universities and universities of cooperative education.

It takes a bit of advanced planning for students aspiring to study in Germany. It takes about a year of planning ahead for those who wish for the admission process to go smooth and easy. Firstly, no matter whether you are planning on doing an undergraduate or post graduate programme in Germany, you must know exactly when to start the process and how to go about it.

    Here is a step-by-step guide –

    Month of March and April

Start your research – The first step obviously is to research your options.

    · Carefully go through the websites of various universities offering the course.

    · Shortlist about 10 to 15 universities you can apply to.

    · Note down the application deadlines of each of the shortlisted universities.

    · Carefully find out what each of the universities require in terms of application.

    · Work out the funding for your studies.

    · If you think you are eligible for scholarships, work out the details and options.

    · Start filling in the application forms.

    · Find about accommodation options.

    Between April and June

Between the months of April and June, it is time to write the necessary standardised examinations required for admission.

    · Register for exams such as GRE or GMAT depending on what you need to write at least three months before the exams are scheduled to be held.

    · Depending on the university you are planning to apply to and on the course you wish to do, prepare with focus for tests like IELTS, GRE, GMAT or TestDaF.

    · If you score low on your test, you may have to redo the same in order to enhance your chances of getting into a reputed university. This makes it imperative to take the tests around June so that you have the necessary time.

    May and June

    · From the month of May, it is time to write your statement of purpose. Prepare a strong statement highlighting your strengths and unique talents in the field you are interested in. Take time assessing your skills and list them out as you prepare your applications for shortlisted colleges.

    · Do this at least two months in advance as you need the time to shape these documents.

    · Get at least three reference letters from your managers and professors.

    · If you are planning on applying for scholarships, it is time to do so.

    · Last but not the least, keep in mind the deadline for all the universities you are applying to and apply on time.

    July and August

    · If you have drafted a strong SOP (Statement of Purpose) and fulfilled all the necessary application requirements, you will receive mails from most colleges you have applied to. Reply to the mails promptly.

    · Next, you will need to attend Skype or telephone interview.

    · It is now time to decide on the college you wish to attend and send the acceptance letter.

    · Make the admission official by sending in the required deposit.

    August

This is the month when you have to get your loan sanctioned and apply for the visa.

    · It is imperative to carefully check the visa requirements, get the necessary documents ready and apply for the visa.

    · Factor in the time taken for processing of the visa and apply well in advance.

    September

    · This is when you will need to make your travel arrangements.

    · Make a check list and double check before you depart.

    · Take all necessary documents.

    · Book your air tickets and get the required travellers cheques.

If you want guidance for this entire process, the best thing to do is to take the help of expert guidance from overseas consultants.
